In September 1990 Fringe Division collaborated with unknown rapper Danger Trix in a bid to break into the hip hop world. These plans were thwarted when Trix was imprisoned for cow-tipping. There were some legal issues around using the vocal takes after that, so Jim Eagle's backing vocals were born. A few of Danger Trix's vocal takes remained and Dave Wolf restored this one beautifully.

In 1989 Fringe Division began work on what would be their debut record, "Pieces of What You Need". Originally scheduled for release in Spring 1993, the record was lost following a mixture of the record company refusing to put it out and a fire in the studio where the recordings were housed.

Fringe Division reunited in July 2011 following the discovery of some of those recordings.
