I remember this like yesterday. August 16th 1987. After a full week of recording this was all we could get out of Tina. When it wasn't gin it was a pill or two, and when it wasn't a pill or two it was a line or two. She was outrageous. We dropped this on her label's desk on the 18th or 19th and they weren't best pleased. I remember meeting her just a few days later and she told me that the label ripped up their contract with her. Someone who was in the office that day mentioned to us only a few weeks ago that they listened to no more than 30 seconds ... jaws on the desk ...

She was an incredible woman. Crazy, kind and loved life. It's well known that she couldn't take the bullying, gossip and sniggering that followed the gender reassignment ... I think that's what killed her in the end. The constant battle with who she was. We were with her on the 25th and I think it was the first time I really saw her smile. A wonderful woman. It's not the greatest track in the World, but I'm glad we recovered this (and at a suitable time too) ... now folk will get to hear her story.

R.I.P Tina Valentine - Nov. 17th 1953 - Aug. 25th 1987.

Happy Birthday, 'sister'.
